Confirmation bias. If you already believe it, it's a lot easier to accept as true when they say it in every December's mag.

You Gotta Love Awake "Logic"!
by metatron inthe dec. 2009 awake asks the question, what kind of star led the "wise men" to jesus?
it concludes that the "star was from an evil source, most likely satan the devil" ( pg 11).
i see the logic , yes....... since herod wanted to kill jesus, a great personage of pure evil must be behind the 'star'.

If You Leave The Organization Where Else Must You Go?
by minimus init seems the watchtower leaders believe that if you were to think about leaving the organization (and listen to "apostates") that you must have a place to go in return.
they feel you must have something, if you were to not accept the organization.
you need hope and belief in something.

I'm reminded of a discussion I heard on the radio between a talk show host and a popular race-baiter regarding New Orleans residents refusing to evacuate during the lull between hurricane Katrina and the floods that came a day or two later. The radio guy was asking why these people wouldn't get on those buses that were just waiting to take them away and the apologist answered with the question, "Where would they go?" The radio guy's answer was succinct and accurate: "AWAY FROM THE FLOOD!"

More ridiculous baseless rules.
I used to wonder what the true rationale is behind all the different ridiculous baseless rules and then I figured out the rationale is the same for all of them: control.
They're a mechanism to put and keep the rank and file under their control and to weed out those who resist their control. It doesn't matter what the rule is, this is the reason for it.

Or perhaps the God of the New Testament isn't the same god the Jews worshipped? That Jesus didn't just fulfill the Mosaic Law, he completely overturned it and its god. If this is the case, replacing the NT God with the name of the god of the Jews is an even greater blasphemy.
There are those who believe this and they make a fairly compelling case for it.
Me, I don't currently believe (or disbelieve) anything. My beliefs are infinite possibilities at present. (well, I'm sure I disbelieve some things but you get the point)

Didn't the 7th Day Adventists stem from the same, or similar, origins?

"No organisation for me!" A question for ex JW Christians
by Chalam inobviously the wt is a best a man made organisation and publishing company.
at worst it is far darker.. anyhow, i understand why an exjw would be cautious to join another organisation.. however, god does have one and it is called the church.. .
matthew 16:18 (new international version)18and i tell you that you are peter, and on this rock i will build my church, and the gates of hades will not overcome it.. it is not a denomination or even a religion, it is just the collective of all born again believers who have come to jesus and are build on his foundation.. 1 peter 2:4-5 (new international version) 4as you come to him, the living stonerejected by men but chosen by god and precious to him 5you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to god through jesus christ.. ephesians 2:19-22 (new international version) .

A church in the scriptural sense is neither a place nor a religion. Where two or three are gathered in Jesus' name, he's there with us.

Holy spirit making its first mistake
by stillin9 inwell, it seems like that the holy spirit is making its first mistake!
they want to appoint me as a ministrial servant!
i wonder if that means that apostasy while being apointed as a ms is okay?!
-
Mad Sweeney
Being a MS is HORRIBLE. Unless you can fast-track it to elder you want no part of it. I've been one for years and it sucks.
JUST SAY NO!

What do you think happens when you die?
by brainwashed-from-birth inwe were taught you are just unconscience in a grave "hell".
no burning fires or wonderful heaven where all our dreams come true.
i never feel like i am going to heaven.

With my newfound (over the last year or so) disillusionment with the JWs and mainline Christianity I have investigated a bit of Gnosticism, Binary Soul Doctrine, and whatever else I could find time to read about.
I don't have a clue anymore. I used to "know" everything. Now I know nothing.
I sometimes regret ever taking the red pill.
Thomas Gray nailed it:
"To each his sufferings: all are men,
Condemned alike to groan,
The tender for another's pain;
The unfeeling for his own.
Yet ah! why should they know their fate?
Since sorrow never comes too late,
And happiness too swiftly flies.
Thought would destroy their paradise.
No more; where ignorance is bliss,
'Tis folly to be wise." -

Mom flies into red rage because I was "attacking" the JWs...
by Kudra inbackground to the conversation:.
i called my parents excited to be having them come out for thanksgiving break.
in the conversation my dad (not a jw) brought up that michael jackson's glove just sold for $300,000 while a recently found first edition copy of darwin's on the origin of species sold for only $100,000.

"Many of Darwin's predictions are about as accurate as those of the Watchtower."
This is true.
